Gusto 101 is a relatively new hotspot for diners seeking Italian cuisine in the fashion district. The restaurant emerged out of a remodelled garage and serves dinner on two floors - we dined on the upper level which features a sunroof. While mobs of diners can regularly be seen on weekend evenings, we visited on a rainy day.
One noteworthy point is that Gusto 101 serves wine on tap! At a $1 per ounce, thirsty diners can opt for either the house red or white wines. Tiffany got a glass of the Gusto Rosso, a Cabernet Sauvignon & Malbec blend. We found the wine to be adequate but you certainly get what you pay for.

Chipotle lime salt, tapenade aioli
Fries, fries everywhere. We love our french fries and Gusto's offering helped satisfy that craving. The aioli sauce was simply to die for and made a guilty pleasure oh-so-much better. Fries were served crunchy on the outside, steamy on the inside, lightly salted.
Cavolo Nero ($13.99)
Organic lacinato kale, zante currants, toasted pine nuts, pecorino parmigiano, lemon vinaigrette
Gusto's take on a kale salad was rather conventional - chopped and served with a lemon vinaigrette and cheese. I often toss up similar salads on our lazy days so while we enjoyed the dish, we didn't quite love it. As pictured, the kale is extensively chopped and almost acts as a sponge for the copious amounts of dressing. The pine nuts offer a great dimension of flavour to the dish and should be mimicked by salad aficionados at home!
Mafalde ai Funghi ($17.50)
Portobello, porcini, oyster mushrooms, truffle cream sauce
Mafalde is not a typical type of pasta served at most restaurants, but its width and wavy edges offer a satisfying texture. The flavour of the mushrooms are front-and-center in this rich, creamy sauce. While we're not traditionally fans of ordering pasta, this dish receives a nod of approval from us!
10oz Bistecca ($34.50)
Dry aged centre cut striploin, porcini puree, grilled king oyster mushroom, asparagus, red wine demi
The steak- well charred and cooked between a medium and medium-well. Not much was offered in terms of sides save for a couple stalks of asparagus. More vegetables or a side of mash would've been well appreciated here.
